Throughout the Covid-19 enforced lockdown, companies all over the world have found the benefit in video-conferencing to meet, collaborate and continue their business whilst working from home and maintaining social-distancing.
Tech companies providing video conferencing have found their usage surge in the months since lockdown was announced. Zoom reported a 50% rise in users in just three weeks from 1st April and Google announced their Google Meet service would be available to all users, having previous been available only to subscribers to their G Suite service.
Recently, Facebook, often the go-to option for chats and calls have now begun to roll out Messenger Rooms; a simple expansion on their already popular video-chat function. The premise is simple; You don't need an account to join a room (but you will need one to host a chat) and up to 50 people can join a room. What's more, there are no time-limits on video chats, so it is perfect for that group catch-up or large scale gathering.
The service is currently limited to Facebook and Messenger, but soon the service will be accessible through the other products in the Facebook group, such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Portal.
To start a 'Room', head to your Messages on Desktop and at the top of the left-hand column, click the middle button labelled 'Create New Room'
For mobile users, navigate to the 'People' tab in Messenger and at the top, click 'Create a room':
